Evaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of XemaTopTM on the Vaginal Mucosa

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The vaginal mucosa is a common site for local and systemic delivery of medication. This study aims to compare the safety and toxicological profile of XemaTop, a proprietary topical compounding base, to that of purified water (negative control) and Gynoll II (positive control), using a 3D model of the human vaginal mucosa. Results have demonstrated that XemaTop presented an ET50 superior to 24 hr, as opposed to an ET50 of approximately 4hr for the Gynol II. Therefore, it may be concluded that XemaTop does not cause toxicity to the vaginal tissues. Compounded medicines including this proprietary topical compounding base may then be considered safe to be applied to the vaginal mucosa for over 24 hr.

Evaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of MucoLox: Human Oral Mucosa, Nasal Mucosa and Vaginal Mucosa (Part 3/3)

Introduction: Vaginal delivery of medication is advantageous in allowing for the medication to avoid first-pass metabolism and gastrointestinal degradation [1]. Lined with non-cornified, stratified squamous epithelium, the vaginal mucosa offers a large surface area and rich blood supply, making it a promising site for delivery of medication in the treatment of conditions such as vaginitis (infl...

Evaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of MucoLox: Human Oral Mucosa, Nasal Mucosa and Vaginal Mucosa (Part 1/3)

Introduction: The buccal mucosa, which contains non-keratinized epithelial cells lining the inner cheeks of the mouth, is a site for local and systemic delivery of medication. This region is highly vascularized and relatively immobile [1]. Buccal delivery allows for the active ingredients to exert rapid onset of action, bypassing liver first pass-metabolism, and avoiding pH fluctuations and deg...

Evaluation of the Safety and Toxicological Profile of MucoLox: Human Oral Mucosa, Nasal Mucosa and Vaginal Mucosa (Part 2/3)

Introduction: The nasal cavity is a promising site for drug delivery as it is easily accessible to patients, has a large surface area (due to the presence of microvilli), contains a thin nasal epithelium, and it can bypass first-pass metabolism [1]. However, many conventional dosage forms (e.g. gels, solutions, suspensions) have low residence time (time at site of action) within the nasal cavit...
